How a Chilled Water Dispenser Works

In order to work, a water dispenser uses two tanks or reservoirs to store the water it will dispense and a refrigerating system that chills the water before being dispensed. The chilled water is stored in a cold tank and the hot water is usually heated to near-boiling temperatures and then stored in a separate hot tank. Some dispensers have a third tank that can be used to dispense room temperature water or steam.

When you press the dispenser button, gravity allows the water to flow through the nozzle and into your cup.
